Colonel Douglas E. Moore’s military career spanned three decades as an aviator, commander, and senior staff officer. During two tours in Vietnam, he flew 1,874 combat missions, evacuated 2,782 patients and piloted the aircraft that recovered three American POWs from the North Vietnamese in a highly sensitive mission along the Cambodian Border.
Between Vietnam tours, he helped organize a unit in Japan that transported more than 63,000 casualties in a two-year period. Later, he commanded the 307th Medical Battalion in the 82nd Airborne Division, served as Inspection Team Chief in the Department of the Army Inspector General Agency, and commanded the 62nd Medical Group at Fort Lewis, Washington where he served as air mission commander for the massive rescue effort following the eruption of Mount Saint Helens. He was serving as Executive Officer for The Army Surgeon General when he retired after 30 years of service.
Upon retirement, he continued serving the military as Clinic Director for the Fairfax Health Center over the next 25 years of his career in the following locations:

Fairfax Health Center (current location) (Jul 12– Oct 14)
Doug Moore will forever be remembered as the “Founding Father” of the Fort Belvoir Community Hospital satellite clinic concept of operations. His enduring legacy will be carried forward by the now hundreds of dedicated staff and tens of thousands of military family members whose quality of life and combat readiness have been improved as a direct result of his un-waivering dedication to our nation’s military members and their families.
Doug is now enjoying his well-earned retirement with his family in Burke, VA.
